    I interviewed someone who wrote a book about Sherman back when I was in college. After the war, Sherman was not universally hated in the South. As a matter of fact, after the war he spent a good bit of time and made a lot of money travelling around giving speeches about leadership and his military history.

    Yep. The villainization of Sherman is largely a 20th-century creation, as is so much of the modern mythology of the war.
