“Sandkings,” by George R.R. “Game of Thrones” Martin, is one of my favorite stories, and I loved the TV movie. It stars Beau Bridges, who is a national treasure.

“Sandkings” tells the story of a man who adopts a colony of alien insects as pets. Like an ant farm. The insects worship the man as a god. This works out well for the man. For a while.

And now “Sandkings” is available on Hulu, part of their streaming the 1995-2002 run of “Outer Limits.”

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella turned the company around by focusing on its core strength in business services; betting big on the cloud; ditching failing lines, mainly the handset business; and opening up the culture.

Really an amazing turnaround; in the technology industry, dominant technology companies in decline, like Microsoft was, don’t make a comeback. I can only think of two examples other than Microsoft: Apple, which required the return of its charismatic founder, and IBM 25 years ago.

Bruce Schneier is skeptical of the Bloomberg supply-chain attack on Apple and Amazon servers, among others. He said if it was true, we’d have seen a photo of the chip by now.

That raises a good thumb rule for judging the veracity of any explosive investigative report. Particularly high-profile sexual harassment charges, like Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein. Corroborating reports start to come out after the initial expose.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez drives the right nuts.

And not just the right – also, moderate, older Democrats.

I love her. Moderate, older Democrats are destroying the party. Moderate, older Democrats cost the party the two houses of Congress, the judiciary, two thirds of the states, and they’re on their way to losing the courts. If the moderate, older Democrats have their way, the Democratic Party will be a powerless third party, sitting at the kiddie table with the Libertarians and the Greens. Time for change.

It’s easy to derive the wrong lesson here. The point is not that Ayn Rand was a hypocrite. If you have strongly held political principles, you can’t live in the world without compromising them.

The point is that it’s impossible to build a market-driven healthcare system that works. Even the 20th Century’s greatest advocate of free markets needed government social programs to stay alive.

She was reported as calling for closing borders to immigrants, which is a gross distortion of what she actually said. And now I remember why I enthusiastically supported her campaign.
