Hellaciously excellent rant by Kristi Coulter, who says women need to drink to live in the world created by and for men:

Do you remember the Enjoli perfume commercial from the 1970s? The chick who could bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never let you forget you’re a man?

I blame that bitch for a lot. For spreading the notion that women should have a career, keep house, and fuck their husbands, when the only sane thing to do is pick two and outsource the third. For making it seem glamorous. For suggesting it was going to be fun. And for the tagline she dragged around: “The 8-Hour Perfume for the 24-Hour Woman.” Just in case you thought you could get one fucking hour off the clock.

Plenty more where that came from.

I’m drinking less and less as I get older. It’s not a moral or health choice. I’m just more aware that I don’t like it most of the time. And I’m more aware that much of the time I used to drink, I was just drinking to fit in. Every now and then, I do like a nice beer or a glass of wine or a martini or Jameson’s rocks. But I often go weeks or months without partaking, and don’t miss it.

Scott Adams says V-neck sweaters humiliate men

Scott “Dilbert” Adams argues that V-neck sweaters are emasculating.

I can’t figure out whether Adams, who has espoused other bizarre views, seriously believes this or if it’s parody.

For the record, I bought myself a V-neck sweater this year and liked it. I wore it a couple of times on a trip back east in February. A V-neck sweater is an excellent, versatile, cool-weather garment, particularly if you’re living out of a suitcase; you can dress it up, with a suit, or dress it down, with jeans.

One of the few liabilities of living in Southern California is you don’t get opportunities to wear cool stuff like sweaters and boots and vintage leather jackets.

Adams:

Perhaps the biggest unreported story of this presidential election is the humiliation of the American male. Unless I’m blinded by confirmation bias – which is entirely possible – it seems to me that the humiliation of American men is now institutionalized in the media.

Check out this commercial for dishwasher detergent. And take careful note of the American man’s v-neck sweater. That’s the uniform of a man who is owned by a woman.

You’re laughing because you know it’s true. How many of the married men reading this blog have received those same sweaters as “gifts” from women? Personally, I’ve received about 25 over the years. None from men. I received three of those sweaters so far this year. I throw them away. Nice try.

Meet game developer Barbie

Mattel Has Released a Game Developer Barbie, and It’s Fantastic

Game Developer Barbie is wearing jeans, sensible shoes (!), and a T-shirt that is both nerdy and kind of cute. (I think it could be translated as “control-alt-ponytail.”) She has a laptop that is laptop-colored, because women can actually use tech products that aren’t pink. There are no pictures of Ken or fashion magazines around her workspace, just coffee, headphones, flowcharts—not to mention actual programming books (C++ and C#) and action figures (He-Man!). She still likes some pink, of course; this is Barbie, and there’s nothing wrong with pink.

Perhaps most striking, Barbie can actually code. With some help from my colleagues as well as the Twitter hive mind, we were able to just barely make out the code on Barbie’s laptop. The interface appears to be Alice, an educational programming environment, and the code it’s outputting is ActionScript (or maybe Haxe). Basically, she seems to be making a Bejeweled clone in Flash.
