L. Frank Baum’s great-grandson is continuing to write Oz books. Also, new Oz movie out

There’s a new movie Oz out – “The Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return,” an animated feature opening widely Friday.

The new movie, set shortly after Dorothy returns from her first visit to the fairyland, is not based on the canon set by Frank Baum but on Roger’s 1989 book, “Dorothy of Oz.”

The A-list voice talent includes “Glee’s” Lea Michele as Dorothy, Dan Aykroyd as the Scarecrow. Kelsey Grammar as the Tin Man, Jim Belushi as the Lion and Bernadette Peters as Glinda. New characters are Wiser the owl, (Oliver Platt), Marshal Mallow, a marshmallow man (Hugh Dancy), China Princess (Megan Hilty), Tugg, a talking tree (Patrick Stewart) and the Jester (Martin Short). The movie includes songs by Bryan Adams.
